SURE-P Board Member Demands Investigation Into N1 Trn Funds Given To States

A member of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P board, Chike Okogwu has called on the Nigerian government and particularly the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to immediately investigate the over N1 trn that was given to states from the SURE-P funds between February 2012 and December 2014.

Okogwu who is the convener of culture and tourism on the SURE-P board says it is laughable that states are complaining of inability to pay salaries for several months as they are yet to account for billions of naira allocated to them for SURE-P projects.

Okowgu also called on the Buhari administration to retain the SURE-P, but with modifications.
The SURE-P was born out of a determination by the Jonathan government to reduce subsidy for petroleum products and re-invest the funds for other critical projects.
