Fake Revenue Agents Invade Abia, Govt Alerts
The government, through the Chief Press Secretary, Godwin Adindu, disclosed that only two government agencies, Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme (ASPIMSS) and the Physical Planning Industrial Development Fund (PPIDF),
had the government’s mandate to collect levies and dues on behalf of government.
He also reminded residents about the state’s ban on multiple taxation and illegal collection of dues, levies and tolls.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the government is hereby re-confirming to the general public that it is only two government agencies that have so far been verified, authorised and mandated to collect levies and dues on behalf of government.”
He advised the public to continue to pay their normal levies to the two agencies of government.
“Any other group, individuals or agents, outside of these two authorized government agencies, who have continued to defy the government order are again warned to desist from their illegal and unlawful acts,” he warned. Adindu also disclosed that already, the state has set up a special security taskforce that is apprehending such culprits.
The government’s spokesman further assured that some fake officials caught would face the full weight of the law soon.
He said that the state government was taking taxation and revenue collection serious, assuring that it would take firm and legitimate measures to bring order and decorum to the revenue collection in the state.
