Wike Calls On Nigerian Universities To Embrace ICT For National Growth

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on Nigerian universities to embrace information and communications technology (ICT) in their quest to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Tuesday during the 30th Annual Conference of the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Nyesom Wike stated that any institution that fails to embrace ICT will stagnate and be left behind in the development process.
Wike said: “Of course times have changed and ICT is the only way to reach the sky in the modern world. So, it is either we embrace the ICT revolutionary change or remain moribund in the 21st century. That is why I consider the theme of your conference: “the role of Information and Communication Technology in University administration and curriculum delivery” as apt.

“I also consider your choice of the Rivers State University of Science
and Technology as your host a step in the right direction. The need for ICT in university administration cannot be over-emphasised. Globally, universities have deployed ICT to effectively streamline administrative processes, improve records and date management, as well as enhance internal revenue generation. With ICT all the statistics, facts and figures required to make good decision are now available n real-time.”.
