Unpaid Salaries: Osun PDP Warns Of Looming Crises

Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Iyiola Omisore

Osogbo—From Osun State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday came a warning that the state may be plunged into serious security crises, if salaries are not paid within seven days.
This is just as the party warned the governor’s aides against insulting people that are making efforts to bail the state out of the “quagmire”, Governor Aregbesola had already admitted the state is in.

The PDP, in a statement issued in Osogbo by the party’s Director of Media and Strategy, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said from all indications, the June 30  deadline for the payment of salaries by Aregbesola, rather than solving the problem, is heightening tension among residents.
According to him, the situation was not helped by the demands of Ramadan period and urged Ogbeni Aregbesola to ensure workers are paid by  21st of June to stem rising tension among the residents.
The PDP said: “We have rightly been informed that  crime rate is on the rise, no thanks to the economic crises Ogbeni has plunged the state into. Many more people are taking to crime because of cash crunch.
“And despite the concerted efforts by the police that have resulted in arrests, these criminals can not be kept for more than 24hours because courts are under lock.”
Making reference to the reply of Osun State Government to the tweet by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who announced donation of his wardrobe allowance to unpaid Osun workers, the PDP said Aregbesola risks people’s revolt because of insulting replies to those that are willing to bail the pauperised Osun people out of claw of hunger.
Aregbesola should resign – LAUTECH doctors
Meantime, resident doctors at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH, Teaching Hospital, Osogbo yesterday   joined their voices with those asking Governor Aregbesola to resign if he fails to pay their salaries on or before the end of this month.
The doctors who staged a protest   outside their hospital, stated that Aregbesola’s administration has overstretched their patience over the non-payment of their salaries for several months.
The president of the association Olalekan Ajayi said; “We are here for just a very simple but very complicated issue. We have not been paid for the past eight months. And since then, we have been lobbying and appealing to the government to help but till date we have not been paid.
